Step Back in Time: Exploring Porec's Old Town
Symmetrical layouts, the Decumanus Maximus, and Cardo Maximus led me to the Forum, now known as Marafor Square, where I marveled at the remnants of two ancient temples.
It was fascinating to walk in the footsteps of history and see how this town's ancient layout still lives on.
A Glimpse of Byzantine Glory: Euphrasian Basilica
This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts Byzantine grandeur and houses a basilica, a sacristy, a baptistry, and a bell tower.
The intricate mosaic floor, dating back to the 5th century, left me speechless.
I felt humbled to be surrounded by such timeless beauty, and it reminded me of the incredible artistry of past civilizations.
Off the Beaten Path: Baredine Cave Adventure
As I descended 60 meters below the ground, the cave's stalactites and stalagmites mesmerized me. The constant temperature of 14°C was a welcome relief from the summer heat.
After the guided tour, I enjoyed some snacks and learned about old tractors - such an unexpected treat!
Sveti Nikola Island: A Hidden Oasis
But being a bit of a loner, I headed to the island's quieter west coast.
The rocky shore and open sea offered solitude and serenity, perfect for some soulful reflection.
Indulging in Gelato Bliss
The real Italian gelato was an absolute delight - every scoop felt like a hug from Italy itself. It was a sweet escape, and I may or may not have indulged in multiple flavors!
