Ivan & Sarah's story

From Tomislavgrad and Toronto, to Zagreb

Ivan was born in the small town of Tomislavgrad, but moved to Zagreb as a child when the war began in the early nineties. After finishing his Law degree at the University of Zagreb years later, he took some time to travel and live abroad. It was while visiting other countries that he realized the uniqueness and appeal of his homeland, and all that Croatia has to offer.

Sarah was born and raised in Burlington, Canada, and took some time to travel abroad after finishing her Sociology degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Croatia was one of the places she visited, and she was astounded by the unequivocal beauty. She fell in love with the country (and a kind hearted Croat named Ivan).

Fast forward several years to 2012, when Sarah & Ivan eventually decided to make Zagreb their home together. Here they began developing the idea of Royal Croatian Tours, and they believed that with Ivan’s local knowledge and Sarah’s western approach and mindset, they’d make a great match for business.

Their vision was simple - to show the wonders of the country, while providing local experiences, with unmatched client support.

After spending a few years developing the concept more fully and getting to know partners all over the country, Royal Croatian Tours was officially launched in 2015. Ivan & Sarah now work with a team of passionate and experienced locals and professionals to make each guest’s visit, one to remember.

RCT takes all of the stress and hassle out of travel planning. Leave all the details to Sarah & Ivan so you can simply relax and enjoy Croatia.

Mislav Ćuk

Trip Planner & Guide

A licensed tour guide from Slavonski Brod and our self-described gentle giant (202 cm), now mostly planning trips for guests from all over the world.

Read Mislav's story

I was born in Slavonski Brod, a small town on the border with Bosnia—right during the war in Croatia (luckily, I was too young to remember it). I stayed there until finishing high school, then in 2010 moved to Zagreb to study business and economics.

Through the years I was always the one organizing trips for my group of friends, and once I realized I was actually good at it, I thought—why not turn this into a job? So I got my tour guide license and got to work!

Now I've been working with Sarah and Ivan for several years - sometimes as a guide, but more often these days as a trip organizer/planner. I've put together amazing trips for guests from all over the world—and I'm having a great time doing it.
Most people describe me as a “gentle giant”—I’m 202 cm (6'7") with the spirit of a big kid. I like to stay positive, make jokes when the moment’s right, and keep things relaxed while still being professional and reliable.

Croatia is an incredible country, and I’ve explored much of it—both on my own and as a guide. You’ve made a great choice coming here. I’m really looking forward to meeting you, learning about your culture, and sharing an unforgettable journey together!
